BYD Launches “Zhengzhou” Ro-Ro Ship to Expand Global EV Exports

BYD Zhengzhou Ship: A New Addition to BYD’s Maritime Fleet

On July 16, BYD officially named and launched its seventh car carrier ship, the “Zhengzhou.” The ceremony took place in Guangzhou, with the name “BYD ZHENG ZHOU” revealed on the hull. As part of BYD’s naming tradition, the ship reflects the importance of Zhengzhou as a major production base in BYD’s global strategy.

Advanced Design with Green Shipping Technology

Built by CSSC’s Guangzhou Shipyard, the “Zhengzhou” is a 7000-unit LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessel. The ship is 199.9 meters long and 38 meters wide, with a draft of 9 meters. It can reach a speed of 18.5 knots. In addition, it features an LNG propulsion system, permanent magnet shaft generator, energy-saving devices, and eco-friendly anti-fouling paint. These innovations ensure both performance and sustainability during long voyages.

Zhengzhou: A Key Hub in BYD’s Supply Chain

Zhengzhou has become a major force in BYD’s domestic production layout. The BYD Zhengzhou Super Factory is the company’s largest integrated manufacturing site. It handles everything from complete vehicle assembly to battery and core component production. Since operations began in April 2023, the facility has produced over one million new energy vehicles. It also plays a critical role in connecting China’s unified national market with international customers.

A Grand Launch Ceremony and First Voyage

During the launch ceremony, executives from BYD and CSSC, along with government officials and car owners, boarded the ship using 24 new BYD vehicles. These cars were distributed across all 12 decks, showcasing the ship’s massive 80,000-square-meter loading space—equal to 11 football fields. Just two days later, on July 18, the ship began its maiden voyage from Xiaomo Port in Shenzhen. It carried 1,064 BYD EVs to Southeast Asia, with plans to dock at Ningbo Port before continuing its journey.

BYD Zhengzhou Ship Strengthening China’s Role in the Global EV Market

The launch of the “Zhengzhou” ship marks a bold step in China’s maritime EV export strategy. It highlights BYD’s commitment to global outreach and green transportation. As Chairman Wang Chuanfu stated, “We are entering the great era of China’s EV maritime expansion.”
